Tip #1: Relax!
This is always a hard one until you actually enter the studio. Being nervous is completely normal for most people, but the more you relax and enjoy your experience the more your personality will show in your images. Starting with hair and makeup is so important because that gives each client time to get comfortable in the studio prior to their session. It also allows us to get to know each other better. Once your session begins, the nerves go away pretty quickly!
Tip #2: Hydrate
Moisturize everything daily for at least 2 weeks. Drink plenty of water especially the week up to your session. THIS is the first time for many ladies that you will have so much of YOU photographed. Staying hydrated will help you look and feel your best.
Tip #3: Plan Properly
Wax or shave and moisturize 1-2 days prior. Never do this the day of in case of skin irritation. If you need to do any touch-ups to your hair, don’t wait until the day before. Make sure you allow time between this and your session in case you need something fixed!
Tip #4: Avoid Spray Tan!
Avoid spray tans or tanning lotions. No matter how natural tanning sprays and lotions may seem, they create an orange glow that cannot be retouched after your session. These can also damage outfits from the client closet as well as furniture in the studio.
Tip #5: Wear Proper Clothing
Wear loose fitting clothing so you don’t have marks on your body that stick around for the session. A collared shirt is a wonderful option to arrive at our studio in so you can wear if for hair and makeup!
Tip #6: Plan Around Your Period
Keep track of when your time of the month is. I know when I’m in the middle of my period, I’m moody, I feel fat, and if I could avoid people I definitely would. Feeling gross and bloated is the last thing you want during your session so schedule your shoot before or after this week!
Tip #7: Leave Your Skin Alone
Don’t pick at facial blemishes, leave ‘em (or you will make them worse!) and we’ll edit them out of your faves.
Tip #8: Trust your photographer I will never deliver unflattering images to my clients. I am educated to accent the best parts of you and your favorite areas of your body. Try to let go of the stress and worry about seeing my vision. I promise to give you a few sneak peeks during your session!
